Should I respond to my employer

You can look for a new job. You can post the name of the employer so that we may all boycott their services. That memo would really irritate me. It even irritates me as a non-employee.

I warn that you will likely be persecuted for certain actions on your part.

This memo sounds to me like same-sex marriage is creating an administrative nightmare for your employer. It probably has to do with withholding income tax. A same-sex couple is probably “married filing jointly” for federal income tax purposes. If the state that they live in does not recognize their marriage, and that state has an income tax, then these people are probably “single” for state income tax purposes. What a mess!
That’s it, right there.

The employer is simply looking out for its own interests. There are administrative costs in having to keep track of two types of marriage, and, as mentioned above, there are recruitment and retention issues.

As an individual I wouldn’t endorse same-sex marriage. But I can see where the employer is coming from.

I would do nothing, other than look for a new employer, if feasible in your situation.
Good advice.

What helped make Christianity acceptable to the Roman Empire was the efficacy of Christians as clerks and more advanced level workers.

If better workers tossed in the towel to some of this nonsense, in even moderate number, some of the damnable political manipulations of & by corporations would stop.
