To cut a long story short I have long felt a strong pull to the Catholic Church, and in recent months have studied intensely, seeking answers for every possible objection. Not surprisingly to all Catholics, but somewhat surprisingly to me, I have found answers at every turn.

I believe I am ready to take the next step and actually speak to a priest. However, my family is preparing to move towns etc. and I was wondering if I should wait until we have in fact relocated before inquiring about RCIA and so on. 🤷

Thoughts?

It can never hurt to talk to a priest. Just explain your situation and he should be happy to talk to you whether you are going to be a member of his parish or not.

If God is calling you, don’t wait.

Definitely speak to the priest. he may ask you some questions. Like Are you baptized? If you are then that puts everything in a different light. If you are not baptized then you will have to wait until Easter vigil to come into the Church. If you have been baptized, then The priest can work with you until you both think you are ready to come into the Church. RCIA may not be the route you need to take, but as I said that depends on whtether you are baptized or not. I hope this helps you

I agree with speaking to the priest now, especially if you feel strongly about it. I went to mass on a whim about 3 months ago, and spoke with a priest very shortly afterwards. At that point I wasn’t planning on staying in this city long term, but since speaking with the priest so many doors have opened for me that my plans have radically changed. I’m not suggesting that’s going to be your experience… not at all. But, I never expected what was going to happen. As Diggeromer says, if God is calling you now, then you should answer now. You never know what may happen either. It might be as simple as some very good advice from this particular priest, on a good parish for you in your new location. I wouldn’t miss the opportunity.

DONT WAIT the Holy Spirit is calling you spaek to the Priest and it will bwe easier for you when you move towns check out where there is a catholic church in your new town to encourage you. also sekk out parish orgainisations such as legion of Mary, Rosary groups tp help you on your way Iwill keep u in my prayers God Bless

Thanks Susan…wise words. Things have been a bit crazy in my life these past couple of weeks, but I intend to book in a time with the local priest asap. I was just saying to my wife the other day, I cannot believe how at peace I am finding myself when I ponder the church and its teachings…it is a foreign feeling for me!

Thanks St Anthony!

Please keep us updated! I’d love to know how it turns out for you, if you’d care to share. You will be in my prayers.

Hey, I just came into the Church this past Easter Vigil. I will tell you that I started asking questions over two years ago. Matter of fact, one of my friends are on this list and I drove her insane with my questions. And yes, it is remarkable that every opposition that is out there, you can find the truth and be able to counter it. I have learn so much about what the Church actually teaches both through scriptures and through traditions. I also found that traditions are always based upon some history. So, it has been wonderful.

I will also 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc what the above people have said, go speak with a priest. Even if you start RCIA here, the priest could send a note to the parish you end up in. We had that happen in our RCIA class this year. The lady was transferred close to the end. Our head priest was more than willing to send a letter.

By the way, welcome.😃

If a president of a very important company was on the phone calling you long distance, would you leave them on hold or go to pick up the phone?

God’s calling, its very VERY “long distance”, and I’d say He’s more important. 😉 Pick it up! 👍

And do let us know how things go.

Besides talking to a priest – which I think is a great idea – you might want to do some reading to learn more about the faith. I suggest the U.S. Catholic Catechism for Adults, prepared under the direction of the U.S. bishops conference. A link:

Welcome to the family!
Thanks adowcday! I’m doing a lot of reading at the minute…I’ve just purchased Catholicism for Dummies and am also working my way through Dave Armstrong’s Biblical Defense of Catholicism and Leo Trese’s The Faith Explained. Plus the catechism…then to give my eyes a break I keep listening to Catholic Answers Live!

Hi there MatthewAdam!

I agree with everyone else: you should speak to a priest even before you move. That still small voice guiding your heart is the Holy Spirit–what a gift!

I heard (and ignored) that voice for years before I got smart and began RCIA. Being confirmed as a Catholic this past Easter Vigil was the highlight of my life.

If you’d like to speak with someone who was very recently on the inquirer’s journey, please feel free to PM me anytime!

God bless you!
*Stella

PS: Another good reference book to pick up and work your way through niiiiiice and sloooow is the Catechism of the Catholic Church. It was tremendously helpful during my own journey.

Thanks Stella! Yes, I’m giving the Catechism a good going over also…it is indeed a great help. And I appreciate the offer. So many questions bob up, it is such a blessing to have resources at the ready and a forum like this to flesh things out.

Blessings…

Welcome Home!

As one who has taught our faith for fifteen years and RCIA for three, I am of the mind that you can’t know too much so if you have the opportunity to began RCIA in Chruch A but have to finish in Chruch B, you are ahead of the process. Dicuss it with your current pastor:)

Love and prayers,

Matthewadam, it makes me so happy to hear that you have been called home to the Catholic Church!
