agree.
kids need to be cared for. can’t undo that they are here.
the doctor that performed IVF should be reviewed by the california board of medicine.
i am curious, though, how is it that she was ‘forced’ to work topless, and may be ‘forced’ to do porn?
why is no one ever ‘forced’ to mow lawns or stock shelves or clip coupons?
when i was in college, i was broke. no one ever made me do a sex tape to pay for books.
now i am not the most handsome man in the world, and i look at keeping my clothes on as my gift to society.
you are welcome

It’s not the childrens fault their mom’s a little off balance. I think they should get what ever support they need.

ATB
Agreed. The children should be getting all the assistance they need. The children, not the mom. She has worked every media outlet she has had at her disposal, including many of the famous financial gurus. People have tried to give her advice, whether she followed through or not I don’t know because I don’t follow her story on a regular basis. It seems to me she self sabatoges her own situation and the children suffer. Perhaps its time for her to put the needs of the children in the fore front and even ask relatives to be their legal guardians so she isn’t “forced” to do porn. That whole spin on this current decision of hers is just another way for her to get publicity which I think she’s addicted to. I think she banked on getting a reality series out of this whole situation she created and it backfired.

My question is whether Octomom deserves some type of public assistance to cope with her very large family.
That’s none of my business. State and federal authorities with jurisdiction over welfare benefits are the ones to decide.

Generally speaking, I’d like to see more private charity and less public welfare, but that would take a dramatic shift in politics and society to accomplish effectively. While there is fraud and waste in the public systems, even the corrupt go hungry from time to time. It is the end, not the means, that I am most concerned with.

The problem is, many want to “punish” her for having the kids.

She has them. It’s done.

The kids should not be made to suffer because of her poor choices- if they need assistance to afford food and basic living things, then I wouldn’t deny them that.

Now, if the children were to be removed, then any assistance should be summarily withdrawn to that of an appropriate level for any other person of that age in need of work, etc.
I object to PUBLIC assistance, but I think it would be good if a church stepped in and helped out. I think there’s a difference between charity and welfare, and welfare isn’t a good idea for helping someone who’s been deliberate about creating a situation like this.

Whose willing to give? Just look at the collection plates at church.

I really don’t know what to think regarding this crazy situation. It just boggles my mind.

I can’t decide whether she should be receiving welfare or not.
:)She’s receiving food stamps, does that count as welfare?

Our family gives regularly to Catholic Charities and the St. Vincent de Paul Society, both which offer help and assistance to those in need. The collection backet doesn’t reflect the charitable contributions Catholics make outside of mass.

Now that you mention, Catholic Charities of America are the second largest provider of social services next to the federal government. We Catholics and other Christians certainly could and should do more, but we’re already very substantial.

That woman is nuts. Those children are in danger. Take those babies and give them to a family or several close knit families to care for them properly.

If she’s considering topless work or porn, is she really a fit person to raise the children? There are other lines of work. Why not provide child care so she can learn a useful trade: welding, nursing, being a chef , auto mechanics? Topless dancing is for people with absolutely no skills.
Or write a book (ghost written).

This is an excellent summary. What’s done is done. And rules have already been put in place in the IVF industry to prevent it happening again. In the meantime, her children should not suffer hunger and homelessness because of decisions they obviously had no control over.

OP: "My question is whether Octomom deserves some type of public assistance to cope with her very large family. "

or shall we perhaps watch them all starve to death?
or die of some completly prevatable (or treatable) disease?

Your question astounds me.

No, she should not, but here children certainly deserve the help. So we should help the Mother help her children!
