My children are young adults now but when they were growing up I made a point of avoiding my sibling who lived an openly homosexual liftestyle. My children knew their Aunt/Uncle lovingly but it never was a comfortable zone for me or my children.

Another of my siblings and spouse now have 6 young children of their own (ages newborn to 15) who are openly exposing their children to this homosexual relative’s lifestyle. In fact they are going to the homosexual’s home for Easter dinner.

What do you think …Should Catholic parents expose their young children to homosexual relatives homes and lifestyles?

Hi Binney!

Perhaps, like many things, the answer to your question is “it depends.” Certainly you should not expose your children to any people who are overtly sexual and know no bounds of decency but that may not be the case for every homosexual couple.

NO! The message gives implicit approval of that lifestyle to your kids.

Gloria,
Fr. Vincent Serpa gave you a beautifully clear response. Thank you for sharing. Somehow, the fact that the homosexual is a relative rather than a friend has complicated my feelings. There seems to be so much pressure to conform to accepting homosexual lifestyle today.
For some, long gone are the days of simple family get-togethers for the holidays because of divorce, homosexuality, and other sinful alternative lifestyles.

Should I let my child visit a lesbian relative?

Gloria,
Thank you for bringing that other letter to my attention. This is affirmation for what I alway felt was a difficult situation. Fr. Vincent’s words are very clear and concise.
This is great relief to have on what I thought was a very lonely road.
