Should the Church formally excommunicate Kathleen Sebelius?

I’m pretty sure she is.

I remember when she was governor of Kansas one of the priests told her she couldn’t take communion anymore. She didn’t listen so I think they excommunicated her. I’m not positive but I know the Priests in Topeka, Kansas refused her communion on more than one occasion.
 
I wonder if this question is compatible with the guidelines of this forum. It seems like a political election and debate matter.

If would have been different if you asked if political leaders should be publicly excommunicated who dissent from Catholic teaching, whether they are **Conservatives **dissenting on the Death Penalty, Labor Unions, Global Government, the Minimum Wage, etc., whether they are **Liberals **who dissent on birth control, fetucide (aka abortion), homosexual marriage, etc., then, that would seem like a good question for this forum.

Why name by name only Liberal dissenters? The conservative party in the USA is FULL of blatant Catholic dissenters too!

I believe that it is time for all Bishops to instruct all Pastors to begin preaching the necessity of voting our Catholic consciences on election day. Then, if the secularists dare to call in the IRS, we exercise our collective muscle.
As for Sibelius, like many so-called Catholic politicians, she cares more for politics than the Church.
Not only has she insisted on enforcing the funding for abortion and birth control, she was instrumental in stopping the Federal funding of Catholic adoption services. If anyone deserves it, she deserves public excommunication and that her Bishop should demand a public act of atonement for entry back into the Church.
The reason all of this is happening is that the Obama re-election team knows that Catholics do not vote their consciences, and that unlike Evangelical Christians, Bishops and Pastors do not guide their flocks at election time.
 
Perhaps more importantly - we should be praying that she comes to her senses and returns to the moral life and obedience to Christ and His Church :signofcross:instead of worrying about whether she should be Excommunicated …

Excommunication is really just a very clear "heads up’ that you need to rethink your path … that you have strayed from the Gospel and need to get right with your Lord and with your fellow man …

Excommunication really is an invitation to repentance … so that is where we should focus our attention … that we seek humbly for our own repentant hearts and that Ms Sabelius does too …

Prayer is very powerful - if enough of us pray for her - she could grow a heart that loves children and life and respects the Gospel message 👍

:eek:Uhhhhhh…ok… these are not as clearly defined doctrines as abortion and contraception which is intrinsically evil in all cases. Unlike, the death penalty for instance. And certainly not the same as opposes a labor union, com’on. It is not a dogma of the Church that one has to support all occasions of labor unions. The economic principals layed out by the Church are just that, principals. They are not specific rules that must be followed at risk of excommunication. The Church is not that over-bearing.
 
I’m not normally one to advocate pulling the Excommunication trigger (despite Mr. Kerry being one of my senators), but in this case - in the wake of Sebelius’ BC pill ruling and after today’s Obama statement that we must kill some of our children in order to provide more opportunities for our daughters - I’d say, yes, formal public excommunication is in order.

A the end of the famous Robert Bolt play about St. Thomas More - A Man for All Seasons - More says to Richard Rich “It profits not for a man to give his soul for the whole world - but for Wales?” Ms. Sebelius might do well to reflect on those words, perhaps along the lines of:

It profits not for a woman to give her soul for the whole world - but for the Department of Health and Human Services?
