Is it appropriate to have the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer available for sale at our Catholic school’s book fair? This is a K-8 grade school. What should I do to get them removed?
I have not read the series, so I cannot offer a personal opinion. An orthodox Catholic reader whose opinion I trust calls Twilight “brain candy.” If that is the case, there is nothing wrong with “brain candy” in moderation. Rather than petitioning for the series’ removal from your school’s book fair, a better strategy might be to suggest to the book fair organizers that there be a concerted effort next year to provide Catholic children’s fiction (and other children’s reading materials) alongside the secular fiction. Sophia Institute Press, Ignatius Press, and Pauline Books & Media all offer possibilities.
