Imagine I saw a person suffering a lot, I would pray for him to die soon. Is that right?

Praying for some particular favours, as such, is not an action which can be right or wrong. After all it is God who decides whether to grant it or not.Your mentality due to which you are making such prayer is that counts. For example in a terrible situation you know that somebody dear to you is going to be violated and hurt fatally by some. You may pray to God that she may die before being subjected to such cruelty…In another case you pray that an invalid who is entrusted with your care may die soon so that you are relieved of the burden to look after that person and enjoy life better.Clearly sinful mentality in this case.(Sorry if the example is a bit crude)
In short ,analyse the reason for praying for somebody’s early death rather than worrying whether such praying is proper or not.

My mother was 94 when she died .

For about 5 years she suffered with dementia .

5 months before she died she was diagnosed with cancer of the bladder .

I prayed for her to die .

She was confined to her bed for just the last 2 days of her life during which she slipped into unconsciousness , and died as peaceful a death as any I have seen .

The doctor when writing her certificate of death was puzzled as to what she had died from for he had seen her shortly before her death and she had shown no signs of being close to death .

I believe her death was an answer to prayer .

That is kind of presuming that you know better than God what is the best thing for that particular person. God may be allowing that person to suffer as a part of earthly purgation that will result in less, or zero, time in Purgatory. This person may have had too much attachment to things of the flesh, instead of purity of heart. There are a great number of reasons God may be allowing this suffering.

It would be much better to pray that God will give this person the graces to know and be completely subject to God’s will; to trust that God will do what is best for that person. It would be OK to ask as Jesus asked … Father if it be possible, let this chalice pass from me.

One always prays that God’s will be done. If the death is God’s will then so be it. If not then its not. "Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done"

Pray in the manner of - "Please Lord, bring an end and ease to the suffering of “X” or for the forgiveness of their sins and an end of suffering. Or ask for God’s help because that someone is suffering a lot.
And let God decide what to do next, how to solve it.
I don’t think it’s alright to ask for someone to die even if they themselves ask us to pray this (if they truly wanted it they would pray for it themselves; if they can’t pray for their own death then we can’t just assume that death is something that they would themselves pick).
I personally would pray only for my own death, not anyone else’s no matter how much they ask me. Because life is something God created and if He still sends His Holy Spirit who brings life into someone, He knows better what that man or woman’s soul needs.

I think it’s ok to pray for someone’s suffering to end. Whether it be by them dying and going home, or a miraculous miracle. Pray that it be God’s will as we pray in the prayer our Lord taught us to pray.

All prayers of this type would be fine, as long as you submit your petition to the will of God. Intercessory prayer is not only laudable, it is scriptural. However, Scripture tells us that we don’t even know how to pray for what is best for us, and for others. This is why we submit our prayers … our intentions … to the Will of God; to the Holy Spirit, who intercedes for us in words (I think Scripture uses groaning) incomprehensible. We ask for what we think is best; God answers with what He knows is best. The problem arises when we question whether God is Good if he doesn’t answer our prayer in the way we think is best.
