Shouldn't something be done about this?

I have recently joined AMS and reading some of the profiles on it, I learned that my diocese isn’t the only one that has no Singles group for young (20 something and up) Catholics.

For most of us, getting married will be the most important decision that we will be making. It can have profound implications on how we will practice our Faith.

Why aren’t dioceses and parishes doing more to prepare young Catholic Adults for this vocation?

Sounds like you have a ministry in the making. Why don’t you start one in your parish and open it up to the diocese?

The church does prepare engaged couples on the sacrament of marriage.

I agree with jrabs… sounds like you should start a ministry at your parish!

I have heard of some parishes having good singles programs… to be honest, I don’t know if our parish does or not - it’s a HUGE parish and I’m not in the market for singles activities …

Preparation for marriage and for all the Sacraments comes first and foremost from your parents, secondly from your Parish. Every Parish offers Religious Education and almost all have opportunities for adult study and service.

Get involved in Parish Life, you will meet all kinds of people!

I think the deeper question is why don’t official Church ministries care more about the plight of those seeking to get married? In my experience, when someone mentons they are seeking marriage, all the naysayers join in chorus either trying to promote the so-called “single vocation” or they will second-guess the person’s discernment or give him/her some other form of grief or they spout the line “are you sure God wants you to get married?” etc. etc.

There are, however, independent Catholic groups, such as the National Catholic Singles Conference and Catholic Thrive that are seeking to fill the void.

Just started going to a parish with a BOOMING young adult ministry (20’s and up, highly recommended by many of my friends). Don’t know how it prepares people for marriage, but I’m sure I’ll find out soon enough!

I know my parish doesn’t have one. I’m not sure about the vicariate. I definitely don’t know about the diocese. I stay pretty concentrated, which may be unfortunate.

I know that we have a young adults group (21-39) her in Houston, I’m not sure if it’s thriving or not. Also, while it’s mostly singles, it’s not a specifically single’s group. Personnally, I would like something for that gap between 17-21 as it’s kind of a odd place to be in (19 here). Too old for the high school groups and too young for the adult’s group, although I have been told I could join in for bible study so:thumbsup:. But try looking in the dicocese or get a group of people in the age range you’re looking at and starting it together.
