Just wanted to sincerely thank the ‘Farmers to Families’ program, which I believe was government-sponsored, for helping many families in our area with food over the last few months. Presumably, it helped lots of people throughout the country during hard economic times for those who are without jobs during the pandemic. I know it helped my wife and I.
In a nutshell for those who may not be familiar , it was a government program in US to move surplus food (usually dairy and produce that would otherwise go to waste) to people in need, although you didn’t have to prove you were in need to get the surplus food.
My understanding is that the government paid the farmers for their excess and distributed it out to families for free by means of churches and other organizations who supplied volunteers to pass it out.
Unfortunately, my understanding is that the program is ending now (today was last day in my area) due to no more funding, but it was nice while it lasted. My wife and I benefited personally from it and shared our supply with shut-in neighbors and friends who were in need.
I sure hope and pray that Farmers to Families or something like it can continue to exist, but in the meantime I wanted to take a moment to thank whoever came up with the program and all the volunteers who donated their time and energy to make it happen.
May the Lord bless all those on CAF who volunteered in this program and others like it (food pantries, etc) in your communities.
