One of my students posed a question to me that I promised I would find the answer to before class on Monday. He asked, do siamese twins share the same soul or does each one have their own soul?

I have a feeling I know what the answer is, but I wanted to throw this out there to see what people think.

This is quite an interesting question, my opinion would be each share their own but there are quite complicated cases so I am looking forward to reading the other responses.

Just like any identical twins, conjoined twins each have their own soul. When the cells split into two individuals after conception, an error occurred and they remained conjoined. It is what we call a birth defect.

The reason some people colloquially call these individuals “Siamese” comes from conjoined brothers who were sideshow performers.
