Sicilian bishop bans mafia godfathers from baptisms

While the mafia is very evil, denying baptisms seems to be contrary to the faith. Baptisms lead people to holiness and save us from original sin. Jesus hung out with the tax collectors, and other sinners so he could show mercy and forgive them. Denying baptisms seems contrary to this.

The bishop’s ban is aimed at godfathers rather than those to be baptised. He sees the crooks as making a mockery of the Sacrament: a criminal isn’t going to make sure a godchild is brought up the ideal way. A thorough knowledge of the use of automatic weapons and knives isn’t necessarily in the best interests of a godson. 🤷

What worries me is whether the mafia knows the bishop’s foot size. If it does, it might place an order for a pair of cement shoes. :eek:

The babies aren’t being denied baptism. Their parents can’t pick mafia dons to be the Godfather.
