Something i have wondered for some time after becoming catholic was if side altars were allowed in the construction of new churches?

Is it against guidelines? i really like the look of them and i have seen pictures of some older churches where they have been taken out, sadly.

Hmmm, I don’t know if it is strictly disallowed. But it is no longer really necessary, at least as long as the ordinary form remains, well, the ordinary form. Concelebration has made the celebration of private Masses at side altars largely unnecessary. As such, I wouldn’t generally expect to see them in any new churches.

I guess it’s not disallowed but there’s typically no point, unless it is expected that a particular church is to serve as a parish church for an EF community or something with multiple priests.

Or leave space for Christmas mangers and the like.
