Could someone explain to me Sigils - their relationship to King Solomon, and why they are now connected to witchcraft/paganism?

There isn’t a reliable connection to King Solomon. The magic symbols attributed to him or connected with him are products of medieval legend. People in the Renaissance and later wrote books of so-called “magic” spells and symbols and attributed them to him. A lot of the “sigils” of today were made up by 20th century occultists.

So basically you just have a whole bunch of people convincing themselves they can do magic through drawing designs. It’s ridiculous. And has nothing to do with King Solomon.

Short answer: there are no historical connections to King Solomon. They are products of medieval/early modern occultists, who falsely ascribe them to Solomon to give them an air of legitimacy.

Sigil is an abbreviated Latin for seal. Occultists (“magicians”) used them as a means to summon spirits. They were usually inscribed with the name of the spirit. The belief being that if a mortal learns the name of a spirit, you would gain power over it so that it would do your bidding. The seal “forced” the spirit to obey you.

Obviously, these “spirits” are demons, no matter how they disguise themselves.

Speaking from personal experience: I strongly suggest not downloading or saving any image of them from the internet. Do not let your curiosity lead you to seek translations of the inscriptions, and never read aloud any of it. If you have a printed book full of them with descriptions/translations…get rid of it ASAP.

Years ago, I dabbled in neo-paganism & the occult. I used to have an extensive library of grimoires. No good will come of it.
