Doesn’t really offend me the way some other recent “art” has. In my opinion It is absurd but not necessary sacrilegious.

Off topic but I once saw a painting of the BVM depicted as a Native American Woman with the baby Jesus in her arms with traditional Navajo religious symbolism intermixed with Christian and Buddhist symbols. This was in the social room of a local convent. I thought the painting was quite beautiful and not at all sacrilegious but a protestant friend with me thought it was scandalous. Not a popular view on this board but I continue to believe that with art as with music, beauty as well as spirituality is often in the eye, ear, and heart of the beholder.

The real sacrilege is where it’s hanging! Just kidding, I shop there. 😃

It’s not unattractive.

For some ideas which are really off the wall, but this time about the late Princess Di, see this page: http://home.earthlink.net/~hipbone/Diana.html Apparently there are those who think Princess Di is the woman of Rev. 12 😃 A great many things are in the eye of the beholder.

I think its fine, and makes a very valid point. Why is it that the actual Mary is being replaced by millionaire celebrities on the cover of magazines?

I think the painting portrays this attitude as a negative thing. Our culture seems to worship celebrities as they once worshipped God. Also, the fact the the setting is in a walmart like store also points out that consumerism is God, the product is God. Celebrities are products. I believe the point of this painting was to say that this is not the way it should be. Of course, thats just my opinion.
