Significance of Moses and Elijah during the transfiguration

Is anyone here aware of the significance of Moses and Elijah being in the transfiguration? Why these two persons instead of anyone else or no one else?
 
I heard that it was to represent the law (Moses the law giver) and the prophets (Elijah)
 
I believe it’s because they were the most powerful symbols of the old Jewish law, and as Jesus was the new law, the transfiguration was the passions of the torch so to speak betweenness the old and new law.
 
I believe it has to do with them representing the law and the prophets (Moses, the law, and Elijah, the prophets) and Jesus fulfilling both.
 
The actual meant as to how it would have been significance to the three apostles. Sorry did not word it correctly. Jews believe that Moses and Elijah were not in Sheol among the righteous Jews. Jews believed that Elijah was taken into heaven and Moses died and was resurrected into heaven. They already had their glorified bodies (like the Blessed Virgin). There appearance at the transfiguration was to reinforce to the core apostles Peter James and John (Jews) that Jesus was indeed Gd and that they (Moses and Elijah) had come down from heaven. It is believed that when Elijah is seen again the messiah has come. Thus, Elijah was seen and the Messiah was present. The fifth cup of wine which is untouched at the seder is for him.

Perhaps it can be interpreted as Peter being the new Moses as Patriarch of the New Covenant, and Paul being the new Elijah as the Great Writer of the New Covenant?
 
Jesus WAS the New Moses. Peter was the New Abraham. In fact, Abraham was the rock of the Old Testament, Peter is the Rock of the new. Paul was not one of the actual apostles in the same manner others were. Paul cannot be read in that manner and Paul was not there.
 
Yes, it was believed that as Moses was so will the Messiah be.

Moses and Elijah were very righteous men, shows Jesus’ Heavenly power, etc
