Some of the chants are praises, which is good, if we understand them, and not distract us. Other medieval chants should be updated. The church needs to update its old traditions, which at their time , some of them, served to strengthen the church’s position as a super , materialistic power, and not as a means of guiding the faithful to a fuller catholic life.
Actually, the overwhelming majority of medieval chants are Psalms, and many of them predate the medieval period by centuries. As far as they “served to strengthen the Church’s position as a super, materialistic power,” that’s pure Hollywood. There is no truth in that statement. Why update what God has given us through the Church? If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Actually for a very new experience we had a Christian meditation yesterday for Palm Sunday. We were very suprised to have a sermon at all since he goes onto another church and more often we don’t anyway because of the Gospel.

But the meditation was related and very very good. It was in response to the lent group discussions. But very good and I have just emailed him and asked for an meditation session every now and then in church.
