One of my friends posted this on a Lutheran Message Board that I frequent. It made me giggle to the point that I had tears in my eyes.
Here is a submission found in the Reports and Memorials Workbook for the 2001 Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod convention held in St. Louis:

TO INCLUDE COMPANY OF HEAVEN IN COMMUNION FELLOWSHIP
Whereas, the LCMS only communes those who are members of the LCMS and are in fellowship with it; and
Whereas, Jesus and many of the saints in heaven were on earth long before the establishment of the LCMS; and
Whereas, During the Lord’s Supper we celebrate the holy meal “with angels and archangels & with all the company of heaven” (LW pp. 146-48 ); therefore be it
RESOLVED, That we make all the company of heaven honorary members of the LCMS, even if they were not Lutheran in this life, so that we are not breaking our own rules when we come to the Lord’s Table; and be it further RESOLVED, That we declare Jesus the Christ to be an honorary member of the LCMS so that in His second coming He will not be turned away from a Lutheran altar.

I think that painfully illustrates the nature of how Protestant theology “interacts” with God.

Men converting Jesus and without even asking just so they can justify their faith. Talk about putting the cart before the horse! :ehh:
 
This concern for the “rules” and technicalities to the extent of making God an honorary member of your church reminds me of the Pharisee’s.

However, such mental gymnastics and preoccupation with “rules” are not the sole province of non-Catholics.

I am ELCA and we don’t believe in closed communion as we find it un-Christ like. So this aspect of the LCMS does not apply to my beliefs.

I think that it is just one of those things where they got so annoyed at defending a ridiculous argument that they made a ridiculous proclamation.

Stupid is as stupid does.
 
Why would the King need honorary membership in his kingdom?

You do realize that this was almost certainly a joke, right? I’ll believe that the LC-MS really proposed this with a straight face right before I believe that the Jesuits really have to swear the Jesuit Oath that promises to disembowel Protestants and so on. (If you have never been shown this as a genuine proof of Catholic depravity, then happy are you.)

Actually, it’s possible that the resolution was proposed–as a tongue-in-cheek protest against the closed communion policy. Which you should not be ridiculing since it’s if anything less strict than your own.
