Last week my confessor told me to pray a decade of the rosary for my mother & fiance as my penance. I’m still a newbie Catholic (baptized/confirmed last Easter Vigil), and I need to look at notes when I pray the rosary in it’s entirety. For my penance I prayed:

[sign of the cross]
Our Father
Hail Mary (x10)
Glory Be
Fatima
[sign of the cross]

Was that correct? Or should I have started with the Apostle’s Creed, and the First Mystery, etc.?

You got it right.

The Fatima prayer is a very good practice, but not essential to the rosary.

To be sure, just say a whole rosary! it isn’t that much longer!

Haha, I had actually just said before Confession! I had never prayed the rosary on a Thursday before, so I was excited to set aside some time to meditate on the Luminous Mysteries.

For a decade you got it right, I add the Fatima prayer also, though it is still new to me, I also pray the Apostle’s creed when I pray the Rosary as opposed to the Nicene Creed, too, just out of habit, I guess. I do pray the Nicene Creed at Mass, though.

ForMary: Never pray out of habit. Jesus dosen’t like it when we serve Him out of habit. Pray and serve Him out of love.

EmBee: Remember that Mary prays the Rosary with you! 🙂

I thought the Rosary consisted of the Apostle’s Creed only (no substitutions)?

That makes me happy, thanks!

I don’t believe the two are mutually exclusive.

And she isn’t praying out of habit, she’s using the Apostles’ Creed in place of the Nicene. Jesus doesn’t mind.

Are you kidding. One decade takes only a few minutes, but a complete Mystery takes about 15 - 20 minutes and a whole Rosary will certainly take more than one hour.

The “whole” rosary as defined by Blessed Pope JP II for a given day is 5 decades, the creed, a pater noster, three hail marys and a hail holy queen. One set of mysteries. takes about 15-30 minutes, depending how fast one speaks/sings. 9:15-9:30 is typical for the semi-chanted rosary at St. Nick’s (Followed by Divine Praises of the 3rd hour, for canonical compliance).

To fully experience the Dominican Rosary as prescribed takes 3 sayings on 3 days; as amended 4 sayings on 4 days. once for each set of mysteries.

That’s not correct. 5 decades is a whole Mystery, not a whole Rosary.

The Rosary is begun by saying the Apostles’ Creed on the Cross; not the Nicene Creed.

It takes about 15 minutes to say one Rosary (five decades) so why would one just say one decade.🤷

As to the Fatima Prayer; it was requested by our Blessed Mother herself in Fatima in the year 1917 (approved in 1930) so it is certainly not a new prayer.

Why would one not include it; it would certainly please Our Blessed Mother.:gopray2:

To say a “complete” Rosary you just continue around the Rosary after you complete each 5 decades (ending with the Doxology) and start with the new Mystery. There is no need to begin over with the Apostles’ Creed and the preparatory Our Father and 3 Hail Mary’s.

:amen:
