SAVINGRACE

Just saw a documentary on History Channel about him. Apparently he was viewed amongst Jews in the 1AD as the Messiah. He fought the Roman occupiers of Israel however he died.

I had never heard of him. Was he considered amongst Jews of that time as A kind of Messiah or The Messiah?

Some people thought he was.

His original name was, according to some sources I’ve read, Simon bar Kosba. He received the name “Simon bar Kochba,” Simon son of the Star, from a contemporary rabbi who had high hopes for him. After his ultimate failure, other rabbis called him Simon bar Kozeba, Simon son of deception.
