Will those of other faiths, if they are sincere and living a good moral life, find salvation even if they believe differently than the Cathoic church does?

Is a sincere Muslim, Mormon, Jehovah Witness, or Jew able to find grace even salvation with God?

Salvation is through the Cross of Christ. In His Life, Death, and His Rising from the Dead Jesus purchased our salvation. Those who have the opportunity to hear this and make the decision to reject it are opting for damnation.

Those who have never heard the truth can receive salvation at the hour of death by the grace of God.

Christ established His Church -The Holy Catholic Church - and gave to Her His authority on Earth. It is through this Church that we learn about salvation and receive Chirst into out life.

NOT JUST STRONG…CATHOLIC STRONG!!!

Did you that the catholic encyclopedia of theology says that sincere Muslims are saved because they are sincerely sincere in their faith. this is very interesting, isn’t it? I found this information on the internet and a Catholic priest said it was true.

Interesting?

Interesting and sensible. Faith and reason. You just can’t beat it.

What Catholic tradition says that people of other faith, if they are sincere enough, can find salvation in their sincerety?
I’m not sure I understand the question.

"Here, too, our beloved sons and venerable brothers, it is again necessary to mention and censure a very grave error entrapping some Catholics who believe that it is possible to arrive at eternal salvation although living in error and alienated from the true faith and Catholic unity. Such belief is certainly opposed to Catholic teaching. There are, of course, those who are struggling with invincible ignorance about our most holy religion. Sincerely observing the natural law and its precepts inscribed by God on all hearts and ready to obey God, they live honest lives and are able to attain eternal life by the efficacious virtue of divine light and grace. Because God knows, searches and clearly understands the minds, hearts, thoughts, and nature of all, his supreme kindness and clemency do not permit anyone at all who is not guilty of deliberate sin to suffer eternal punishments. "

I found this on the web in the Encycopedia of Catholic docrine.

Can salvation be found outside of faith in christ?

Hi DL! It just so happens I am taking a catechism course right now & I am on that chapter which speaks about your question. The paragraph starts off by saying: “Full membership in the Church comes from acceptance of all its beliefs & sacraments & from union with the pope & bishops. The Church has a real, if imperfect, unity with Orthodox Churches & with baptized non-Catholics. It is related to people who believe in God-to the Jews with whom we share the Old Covenant (Testament), to Muslims who profess the faith of Abraham, and to other non-Christian religions. Those who, through no fault of their own, do not have an explicit knowledge of Christ can achieve salvation if they try, assisted by God’s grace, to lead good lives; their salvation comes from Christ even though they do not know him. Those who culpably reject Christ & His Church, however, forfeit eternal life, and in this sense it is true to say that outside the Church there is no salvation (C 836-848)”

If this is true then why become Catholic since any way leads to salvation as long a person is sincere enough?

How can Catholic dotrine be supported when the Bible say:
Acts 4:12
12 “And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.”
NASU

John 14:6
6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.
NASU

I think you need to go back & read that which I typed again. It says those through NO FAULT of their own. Also, do not forget The Catholic Church is based upon oral & written tradition, not sola scripture.

That is just what I have said. Through not fault of their own if a person believe in another religion but is sincere then that person will go to heaven. This what your church is teaching. then my question still stands.

Why become Catholic since through no fault of our own we are taught another way is right and sincerly believe what we have been taught then we do not need the Catholic church to be saved. Any religious beliefe system is going to get us to heaven through no fault of our own.

Then you should not do missions because if you tell somone of another faith about the Catholic religion and they do not accept it then they will not be saved. But on the other hand if you just left them alone and do not tell them then they will never hear and be saved through their reilgion through no faut of their own.

This tradition does line up with what the Bible teaches. Catholic oral tradition should never disagree with the Bible if that tradition is from God. God will never give us confusing signals. The Bible says that there is only only way to heaven and that is through Christ. The Chruch says differently. Which is correct? Both should complement each other. How does your church tradition and the Bible fit together on this subject? If the Bible is from God and it is, and if the church tradtions are from God, why then is there disagreement between the two of them since both are supose to be from God? Which do we go with, the Bible or your traditions and how do we know this to be true?

Unfortunately the exception has become the rule in the modern Church to the point of rendering EENS [Outside the Church there is no salvation] obsolete. When I speak of “exception” it’s for lack of a better word since there are no exceptions since all salvation is through the Church and those who are saved are so by their interior membership.

This obscure little ‘exception’ does not need to be taught anywhere except for theology class for the Priesthood and even then it should only be taught hesitantly and in a most defined and accurate way. As we’ve seen in these past 40+ years there is a diminished missionary effort and an utterly crushed missionary spirit. Even the likes of those who know better, such as Mother Teresa, has been instrumental in amplifying this ‘exception’ by her infamous of words of helping a muslim become a better muslim etc.

Note in the below quoted text (quoted from Thunderballs’s post) the bolded section on the role of sin in this. You rarely hear this little qualifier. If most Catholics are not saved, which is the majority oppinion of the great Saints, then I would think that for those outside of Her to live a life of grace without the sacraments would be so remote to be as almost nonexistent.

Keep the missions going strong, put aside those nice little “let’s get along” sentiments when those protestant ‘missionaries’ come to our door - remind them them of the truths of our faith and that they’re in danger of eternal loss while they remain outside of the One True Church.

Leave the finer points of theology to the seminaries.

Can you show me from the Bible where it says that salvation is through any type of church? Jesus said He was the way not the church. The Bible should agree with this idea of church salvation. So please provide support for this idea within the pages of the Bible. It is God’s word and will never disagree with the church’s teaching if that teaching or tradition is from God. Both as you say are from God so they must be in agreement or there is a major problem.

Oh DL I just noticed your faith…I thought I was responding to a Catholic who was asking a legitmate question. You’ve come for a debate via sola scripture in which we through scripture at each other. The Bible is full of paradoxes in which we can twist & turn any argument anyway. I find this to be nothing but a waste of time & way too much typing. Why didn’t you post this on the non catholic forum… or the apologist’s forum. You’ll find lots of willing debaters there.

First, in a nutshell, the Church is the Body of Christ (1Cor 12) & the Kingdom of God (Col 1:13). It’s important to read the Bible understanding those concepts. Now rephrase your question and it should become obvious, “Can I be saved outside the Body of Christ?” or “How is one saved outside of the Body of Christ, the Kingdom of God?”

Christ establishes the Catholic Church in Mt 16:18-19 and promises the gates of hell shall not prevail against it and gives to St. Peter the keys to the Kingdom thus teaching both the indefectability of the Church and the primacy of St. Peter.

In Luke 10:16 Christ instructs us of the teaching authority of the Church and it’s necessity for salvation; He that heareth you, heareth me; and he that despiseth you, despiseth me; and he that despiseth me, despiseth him that sent me.

The Divine promises of Mt 16:18 apply only to the Catholic Church which alone is of apostolic origin and posesses the four marks of the True Church; One, Holy, Catholic, & Apostolic. That the Church cannot teach error and is promised the guidance of the Holy Ghost (John 14:26) in matters of faith and morals means that a rejection of any one of the Church’s Divinely revealed teachings is a rejection of the teachings of Christ (he that despiseth you, despiseth me) and excludes one from salvation. How can one be saved who despises the teachings of Christ?

The Church is the Body of Christ (1Cor 12) with Christ as Her head (Eph 5:23). Those cut off from the Church are not part of the Body and those who will not hear the Church are excluded from it (ie. heretics, schismatics, infidels) (Mt 18:16-18 & Gal 1:9).

I’m sure you can find vast amounts of further information here on CA - I’m not talking about the forums but in the apologetics articles.

God Bless,

That’s a logically produced scary thought.

A paradox is a seeminly contraditory statement. We know that there are no contrdictions in the Bible only man’s misunderstandings. If there is a contradiction in the Bible then the Bible is in error and not inspiried from God and we are blind sheep following blind leaders. there is not contradicitions found in the Bible if there point one out please. It is easy to says there are contradicitions and a nother thing to find. If you understand each passage in context, context is everything) then you will find not confliciting parts of God’s Word.

James is talking about justification before man and Romans is talking about justification that brings salvation. Where is the the conflict?
