Sinfulness in games

Could someone help me with this? I’m wondering about the morality of games.

Here’s three examples (would they be sinful?):

1. “Risk” for playing out simulated war.
2. The neighbors and I are making a snow city in our backyard with government and everything. Some laws are pretty Socialist, giving government control of a lot of things. Could this be causing scandal?
3. I’m expecting to get a game called “Civilization” for Christmas. In the game you run an empire and people are basically commodities and you can choose to have a religion as a benefit.

I wouldn’t think so. But if you’re particularly worried, you should talk to a priest for a more professional opinion.

The reason I think these games would not be sinful is because they seem more for the purpose of strategy (Risk and Civilization) and creativity/thought-provoking (snow societies).
Games are good for developing the brain… You think about how society works and how you fit into it by making these civilizations. You look at options and prioritize for best strategy in Risk. One thing that might become sinful is if you let the games become an obsession or if you start to love war or anything like that.

I have played “Risk” and “Civilization” and its really fun. There is nothing wrong with the games!! Have a Merry Christmas!!!

They key word in all of this is the fact that everything in a game is all virtual. It’s not real. In the case of strategy games like yours, just think of it as a really advanced form of chess. You don’t treat your chess pieces like real people now do you?

Oh just play the darn games. Its just a game nothing more and nothing less. Play till your heart is content. Its like saying the game “Stratigo” (spelling probably incorrect) is a sin because it is a “war” kind of game. Or “monoply” because its a cut throught kind of game. Or “Mario brothers” you have to shoot and destroy things and some type of life. Or even the "dating"game, this could be considered a lustfull game. My point is just in about every kind of game you can find something that could be considered wrong or sinful. But they are just games.
