Is it permissible to sing a song at the beginning of or during the Homily? How about with a guitar? What if it is a Psalm or the writings of a Saint made into a song by the Deacon?

I don’t know what the rules are, I suppose it could be his way of breaking open the Scriptures. We once had a visiting priest who sang during his homily. It was a little embarrassing; he kind of made a spectacle of himself and it didn’t seem appropriate.

I bet no one was busy reading the bulletin or sleeping when he sang part of the time. Our deacon occasionally will sing a line from a song but never the whole thing to use for emphasis. Always seems to work for him. As long as it doesn’t happen regularly, what is the harm? Then it won’t make any point…
