Hello Everyone,

I’ve been away from the Catholic church a very long time. But not from God. He’s a part of my everyday life.

Is there a list online some where, that says which sins are venial and which are mortal?

The book Catholics for Dummies explains the difference between the 2 types of sin. I’m not aware of any “list”. I am a convert to the Catholic Church and was aChristian prior but am truly blessed being in the Church receiving the Sacraments. TheCatholic Chuch is so deep and a wealth of wisdom and strong theology. I would welcome you to take a closer look!

I agree that it’s not for the most part it’s a concrete list though.
 
@OP: It’s better to consult a priest - who most probably will tell you that there’s no such thing as a definitive list of mortal and venial sins, as in a penal code with automatic punishments implied.
The list posted above is absurd. No sane priest will say it’s a mortal sin to practice the rhythm method or NFP, to be a member of a Socialist party or to cut yourself (which is a manifestation of an illness, not an evil choice deserving eternal punishment). As for venial sins - playing Dungeons and Dragons, “attachments to persons or things”, “giving in to depression”, “failure to bow, remove your hat, or bless yourself when passing a church” or “has your wife unnecessarily taken employment away from home, and children” - come on, what is this? :eek: And all this from a site that promotes Medjugorje, the Mayan doomsday prophecy and the forgery about St Malachi…

The Church does not have a list of mortal and venial sins.
The following is a guideline to what can be mortal sins:
