Hi all, the long awaited new Catholic Channel now has it’s place on the lineup. It’s channel 159, right next to EWTN (ch. 160). So far I haven’t heard anything other than various composers’ versions of Masses and Requiems, but I think they’re planning to expand programming. sirius.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=Sirius/CachedPage&c=Channel&cid=1158082409509 And I’m certainly not complaining about the fact that my commute home the other night was eased by the sounds of Durufle’s Requium. 👍

I noticed that my Sirius receiver updated the channels last Tuesday to include the new Catholic channel. All I’ve heard when I’ve checked was music and a couple of “Coming soon” promos. My guess is that they’re working out all the last minute techninal kinks before they go on air with normal pragramming.

Maybe Monday we’ll have some programming?

Sirius: TWO Catholic channels.
XM: Zero

I think I might know who will win the satellite radio wars. 😉

You can get the scoop at whispersintheloggia.blogspot.com/2006/09/stay-tuned.html

Apparently, Cardinal Egan had knee surgery and he really wanted to be involved in the programs so they delayed the start. Unfortunately, they didn’t get a press release out retracting their earlier release and many newspapers announced that the station has started programming.

Today they had the first non-music program that I have heard: the Notre Dame Football game. One must have one’s priorities 🙂

I do not know why Sirius needs another Catholic Channel when the New York airwaves do not have a single Catholic Radio Station.

But isn’t that all the more reason for satellite radio to add Catholic programming? If broadcast radio isn’t meeting a need, someone else needs to step in.

But yes, its sad that such a large market as NYC lacks a Catholic radio station.
