Hi all,

One question:

Would you subscribe to Sirius Satellite Radio in order to listen to EWTN, even though Sirius is the new media home of Howard Stern?

Thanks,
Gene

Is it any different than subscribing to cable TV and not watching “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy?”

Considering that the way Stern’s employment works is based on the number of people HE is bringing to Sirius, I’d have no problem with someone actively supporting their EWTN station as the evidence that EWTN has supporters would do well to bolster its standing and decrease Stern’s.

That said, I wouldn’t spend money on radio at all. 🙂

This is why I’m glad I can still catch EWTN on cable, especially here in Louisiana, where most of the Christian talk stations have so much anti-Catholic bias. :tsktsk: (in fact, only one station that I know of actually presents the Catholic side: the one on 600 on my AM dial plays Catholic Answers’ call in show.) And you can never change their minds. I tried twice. The closest thing to that is that one of the local types has muted his anti-catholicism somewhat, however I can’t say the same for his guest hosts.

Yup - in fact, we have become Sirius subscribers in both cars in the past 30 days. I think we need a home reciever… Last evening DH and I sat in the car in the driveway to listen to CA Live, and the neighbors are beginning to talk 😉

Hey–you just reminded me that my new car is Sirius compatable–I need to follow up on that so I can listen to some of my old favorite stations from Chicago again.

A friend of mine at work just got Sirius (we are allowed to listen to the radio with headphones) so he can listen to Stern. I think Stern is simply awful and I would not want to subsribe to Sirius anytime in the next couple of months. Because he will try to use the number of new subscribers to say that he brought them in.

But I am impressed with the Sirius setup I see on my friend’s desk with all the stations and the screen showing what is playing on the radio. Sure beats turning the knob and trying to get local stations.
I may subscribe in a few months.

Absolutely. There’s no law that says you HAVE to listen to Stern, the uncensored comedy channel, or anything else you find distasteful. Program your fave 30 channels into your receiver, and that leaves a whole bunch of other channels that you won’t even run across by accident.

EWTN on Sirius. It’s the only way to drive. (And spend lonely nights at my nightwatchman job, too)

Of course, if I had it. You don’t ever have to tune into Stern. As someone stated earlier I would not watch Queer eye or a lot of other junk on cable, but I do watch EWTN, food network, fox news, some things on TBS and lifetime (not all) and my favorite TVland (I love the reruns).

When I first signed up on my digital cable, I recieved all the channels available for 2 months as a promo. Channel 184 was EWTN, next was 186 was Gay TV and 187 was Sex TV and 188 was another adult theme. Yes in case your wondering I dont subscribe to those other TV Channels.

What brand of car. I may be in the market for a car this year.

I am considering getting Sirius just so I can listen to EWTN radio in my car during my commute. There is one Catholic radio station in the county I live in, but the signal is so weak that I can only get good reception when I am within a few miles of the transmitter.

If I do make the switch to Sirius, I won’t listen to Stern. I listened to him often when I was younger, but then again, I did a lot of things when I was younger (and away from the Church) that I now regret.

Thanks for all of your comments!

I will subscribe. However, I don’t own a car so I will be listening to it at home on a receiver, and at work through my PC.

By the way, an old college friend works at Sirius, which is right down the block from where I work (in New York City). She invited me up for a tour. She is a programmer in the Talk section. She was offered the job of being Stern’s office manager but she turned them down.

Thanks again,
Gene

The only reason I have ever considered getting Sirius is getting EWTN where it was not readily available. Where I live now, there are 2 Catholic radio stations so I do not really need it. With Stern on now, I would be less likely to get it.
