Does your Parish have a sister Catholic Church in a poor country that they support with money and / or send people to on missions?

I’ve seen Fr. Ho Lung on EWTN, ewtn.com/series/2005/bridges.htm and one of his missions is in Jamaica.

I find it odd that our Catholic Church says so little about supporting a particular Catholic mission around the world.

There’s no connection to the missionaries nor to the people needing help.

We have a sister church in Kenya. Their priest visited a few years back and said Mass. In his country, people travel by cart or on foot, and so arrive gradually over the space of an hour. He got so nervous! Here everyone arrives by car about 15 minutes before Mass. He thought no one was going to show!

Also, in his country, they don’t shake hands as a sign of peace. They wave at each other.🙂

since “our Catholic Church” is so heavily invested in missions around the world and has an office in the Vatican devoted to missions, I find that criticism odd. Maybe you mean “my local parish or diocese” says little about supporting missions (although we get plenty of gripes when missionaries speak at Mass and ask for donations–even here on CAF). If that is the case I suggest you find out if your parish or diocese has a “sister” diocese or mission, as many do. In my former diocese it was El Salvador, and diocesan collections and other outreach supported many missionaries there.

Here we have a local outreach to a parish in a colonia right across the border, and a sister parish in Honduras.
