Their founder, Margaret Slachta, was the first female member of the Hungarian Legislature. The community worked to protect and save the lives of their Jewish neighbors during the Holocaust. The director of NETWORK in the US, Sister Simone Campbell, is also a member of this congregation.

If you can find a copy of Sr. Jean Marie Renfro’s history of this community, Planted by Running Water: The Story of a Charism (1985), I highly recommend it. It was privately published, and rather rare (I do have a copy–Jean was a friend), but fascinating.
