June 12 was the memorial of Blessed Mercedes de Jesus Molina. She was the founder of Ecuador's first women's Congregation, the Sisters of St Mariana of Jesus, or the "Marianitas". They were founded primarily for the care of orphans, but serve the poor.

The Marianitas are Jesuit in spirituality.
