Well, first of all, I don’t believe in ‘coincidences’, large or small. I call them God-incidences.
Also, I’ve come to realize that God almost always answers my prayers and sometimes His answer is, “No.” We tend to only think that if we get a positive outcome then God answered our prayer, but if it’s a negative outcome, then He didn’t answer it. The thing is, God loves us much, much more than our earthly fathers do, yet how often do our earthly fathers tell us, “No”? In my case it was a whole lot, because my Dad was pretty tough, but I never doubted his love for me.
But, to answer your original question. I’ve been under no small amount of stress this past month because I have a son with schizophrenia and he’d been having some bad episodes. After he recovered a bit, I checked the website of one of my favorite national shrines with the intention of a quiet getaway for a couple of days, to think and relax and spend some serious time in prayer. Lo and behold, the banner across the top of their website was advertising a conference specifically for families who deal with loved ones with mental illnesses! The conference is right there on the grounds, reasonably priced and half-price hotel rates.
I’d been praying to God for strength and wisdom to know how to best help my son. Coincidence? Never! Nothing could ever convince me that God didn’t answer my prayer in the most direct of ways.
He doesn’t have to tell me twice…I leave tomorrow.
