I am sitting in my bathroom at 12:30 in the morning with a dilemma.

I started box braiding my hair around 8p.m. on Saturday evening (technically yesterday). I am almost done, maybe half an hour more.

BUT! I realized it was past 12am and the day was now Sunday. And I thought I would turn to my fellow Catholics for advice.

Now, for those of you that know, box braiding can be very tedious and would definitely be considered work.

Would finishing my hair count as working on a Sunday?

No, it would not. Only unnecessary work or things that explicitly prevent you from honoring the Sabbath would fall into that category.

There is no reason for you or any Catholics to be obsessing about Sunday work. If you go to church and spend time with your family, or in prayer if you haven’t got a family, then you kept the Lord’s day holy.
We don’t worry that everything we lift a finger to do is work and therefore forbidden on the Sabbath.

OP, This is how the pharisee’s treated the Sabbath, and Jesus specifically spoke against it.

Mark 2:27
Then he said to them, “The sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath.
Don’t worry, you’re not engaged in labor that’s taking you away from God. You’re good.

Also, how long is your hair? Or are yo doing those little tiny braids where you wind up with dozens of them by the end?

Very possible if you do box braids (but the hair style can last for about a month). Very pretty by the way. 💖

You spent 4 1/2 hours braiding your hair?!
I’m not black, so my apologies if I am completely wrong about this, but I believe 4½ hours would be pretty quick for box braiding. @Pixle_Catholic said that she only had about half an hour left to go, which would make 5 hours. I don’t think that’s an unusually long time for box braids. And I think most women would usually leave them in for at least a month, and even up to two months, so it’s actually quite a good investment of time. Assuming that you are from the US, I know that US English is confusing, as you also use the word “braid” to describe what I, as a British woman, would call a “plait”, which can indeed be done in a few minutes, e.g.:
