Sitting in the back

We tend to sit toward the front because it is what my children prefer. In a previous church with a different layout we always sat in the 2nd pew (first had no kneeler and no way to keep young children corralled) off to the side.

I do know that sitting toward the back is not just a Catholic phenomena; all my church going friends, whatever the denomination, talk about those empty 3 or 4 rows in the front of the church. 😃 I think people are just self conscious walking to the front and sitting where they think everyone is watching them.

What I really don’t understand are the people who stand in the back - all through Mass - even when there are plenty of easy to get to seats.

I would say personel preference. Front/back left side/right side. I love the front. Don’t know why I just like about three rows back. And one lady that sits next to my family can really bealt out the songs. Between her and my wife singing it actually sounds as though I can sing. Because as my wife would say I an not only tone deaf but worse much worse.

I’ve always wondered why (in general) people sit towards the back at church. At every church I’ve gone too, it seems the majority of people sit in the back few pews. I prefer sitting up front, so that I can see everything going on around the altar.

Anyone have any ideas on why people tend to sit in the back?
I personally sit in the back mainly because I want to see which side the priest is going to(when he gives out communion), either the right or the left. Because he allows ‘Eucharist ministers’ to give out communion with him. This obviously is a no no for me:tsktsk:
