The bishop of Manchester recently decided to allow the chapel of the St. Benedict Center to be an approved site of Catholic worship. And he granted faculties to a priest to offer the sacraments there.

However, the Slaves of the Immaculate Heart of Mary are not listed among the religious communities in New Hampshire, according to the Diocese of Manchester website.

I am glad to see that they are now in good standing with Rome. The presence of their Bishop at the confirmation and the link by Dale indicate this.

They have had a troubled past, being founded by Fr Leonard Feeney, who was an extreme traditionalist, excommunicated by the Congregation for the Defence of the Faith (CDF) from 1953 to 1972, for “grave disobedience”. The wiki page on Feeneyism indicates that the Slaves of the Immaculate Heart of Mary founded by Feeney split into several several groups, including the Saint Benedict Center, which you linked to. This group has been, according to the Wiki page “reconconciled with the Catholic Church”, which would indicate that there was a period of exile.

This very nice picture, from their website, has them standing with the bishop.

There are still a few concerns for me from their web site. Frequent mentions of “Tradition” and the Latin Tridentine Mass as their authorities, and loyalties, seem a bit extreme, and echo schismatic groups. It appears that they don’t want to be in schism from the rest of the Church, but they seem to avoid showing it respect. I hope I’m wrong. There is no requirement to say on one’s web site “We respect our diocese and other valid forms of the mass” 🙂

By pure coincidence I stumbled on their other web site today - one which promotes their Catholic thought:

catholicism.org

Actually, this is the site with the news item linked by Dale above, but I didn’t realize that it is run be their order.

This page on the site specifically addresses their status in the Church…
