This is a strange question…
I just recently bought a bunch of plastic holy water fonts to put throughout the house. We use tham ALL the time, I am always refilling them. That being said, I have noticed that the plastic on the inside feels a little slick and slimy, if ya know what I mean. Is there anything I can do to prevent this. Or when the water runs out this time should I just give the fonts a good vinegar cleaning and rinsing?? Thanks

Ask if they’re adding salt to the holy water, before it is blessed. I believe that usually, they do. The salt keeps the water from getting that way. Could be, that perhaps… someone didn’t add any salt? Just a thought.🤷

Check out some of the fonts in some churches - especially stone ones. Sometimes both the font and the water have a quite disturbing greenish tinge to them! I don’t know if salt would help, they don’t usually put tons of it in or anything.

Rinsing it out with vinegar or other disinfectant is a good idea (not bleach if they’re plastic, it may discolour them). Perhaps use a piece of sponge in the font so there’s less water in contact with the plastic?

Sadly kids hands are not always the cleanest when they use the Holy Water fonts, which sometimes allows the bacteria to enter. If you dispose of the water in them, make sure it is in a place outside on the ground, that is not trampled upon.

I always have to look at the water to see how clear it is. If it is clear, I have all five fingers in it; if it is unclear, I have the tip of my index finger dip in the water. 😃 On Sunday, sometimes it gets dirty really quickly.

You don’t have any cats that could possibly be drinking out of them do you? Just a thought, as this happened to us once and when I figured it out I moved it where she couldn’t reach it anymore. I didn’t think she could until I saw her doing it one time.😊

No. We don’t have any animals. I think I will ask about the salt…and I am still using it. I just figured we’d use what was left and then I’ll clean it and go from there. I am so glad that you guys know what I am talking about, tho…🙂

We clean the holy water fonts in our church twice a week. It’s amazing how quickly the water gets cloudy.
