So back when I was deep in masturbation (a period which ended February 24th, bless the Lord!) I wrote smut. I was going through my Google docs folder Friday and found the story, and read it out of curiosity. I’m ashamed to say I read the whole thing and was aroused, but no masturbation or fantasizing other than what was read occurred. Sunday, I received the Eucharist. I’m planning on going to confession Wednesday anyways just to clear my head, but I was wondering if it’s a mortal sin to have received communion after reading the story. I am fully aware that smut is a form of porn, but I’m wondering if reading it out of curiosity and not as a masturbatory aid is sinful.

I wouldn’t say you were committing mortal sin in the matter. However it was most likely sinful. You knew that it was pornographic material. You had a bit of a relapase in judgement and gave into the cravings of the body. Go to confession to clear your conscience and stay on the right path. You can do it brother.

So I don’t need to confess receiving communion? That’s relieving if true.

Maybe best to ask a priest in Confession if is a mortal sin. Then again, you might have to describe what it is to him, that he can better judge your case in the Confessional.

Okay. I’ll ask him and if he says it is I’ll confess to receiving as well.

Destroy everything in those folders and go to confession. Your priests is the proper person to ask.

Already done. I’m disgusted that those thoughts were even in my head.

So that’s it? Just ask the priest if it is and move on?

He would be your spiritual director, yes.
Always trust a priest over internet strangers. God bless you.
