Snopes labeled an obviously satirical story as 'false', potentially threatening the future of the Babylon Bee website

Had snopes tired longer to defend this hill, it would have paid a staggering price in being taken seriously in the future.
I don’t know why every correction has to be seen as a defeat. Snopes has no vested interest in defending this “hill” as you say. They just want to continue to point out when things are true and when they are not. They don’t want to destroy Babylon Bee or anyone else. So in that sense, Snopes still won.

I simply do not see this as a hill, or even a bump. It was a joke on the internet, and scarcely the first to be taken too seriously to the point it has a life of its own. Besides, I would hope no one would take even the most reliable source of information as being inerrant.

“The Fake News Police then showed up at The Babylon Bee’s headquarters and hauled away their team of writers and editors. Their computers were seized as evidence, though reports indicate they attempted to destroy phones, hard drives, and over 30,000 fake news stories before authorities arrived.”

I wouldn’t suggest anything such thing.

This, though, was a matter of having painted oneself into a corner by attempting to indignantly defend a stupid act (their initial defense of the “false” rating), and need a face-saving way out.

Now this is the best response to the incident. I had never heard of the Babylon Bee before. I see I am going to include them in my entertainment.

Isn’t there a Catholic satirical version of the Babylon Bee?

It is 5 am and my allergy medicine kept me awake all night–i needed something like this so badly!!!

Thanks so much to all of you!
