“Everything is exposed to the eyes of the One to whom we
must give an account of ourselves”.
– If this is so, then why must we give an account?
In the gospel, when Jesus was teaching by the sea, I wonder
how big that crowd was? How far did they follow Him to get to
Levi? Then did they all follow Him to Levi’s house? If so, did
Levi let everyone in to the dinner or not? When He left, did they
continue to keep following Him? I want to know how many kept
following Him? It couldn’t have been 5,000, right?
Today is also the day of St. Anthony, patriarch of Monks.
His readings are: Ephesians 6:10-13.18 (armor of God), Psalm
16, and Matthew 19:16-26 (rich young man). I was thinking
when I read the rich young man, and he told Jesus, "I have kept
all of these since my youth, he was really saying right to the
Son of God, that he had loved his neighbor as himself all his
life. Then the one thing Jesus asked him to do, proved himself
wrong because he didn’t do it, even though the Son of God asked him to his face. If he loved the poor as he loved himself, he would have at least divided his possessions between himself and all of them evenly. I wonder how it is for an American to enter the kingdom of heaven, where even the poor are rich, compared to the people living in Jesus’ time. Even the rich didn’t have running water, electricity, heat, computer, tv, and many other things that
the poor enjoy today. If it was hard for the rich to enter heaven
back then, how much harder would it be for today’s American?
