So let's talk about today's readings 2/13/09

“she also gave some to her husband, WHO WAS WITH HER,
and he at it”

Now hold on a minute, I thought he wasn’t with her. Did he hear
the whole conversation with the serpent? If Adam was with her,
then why did the serpent ignore him? Was he trying to act like
the woman was superior to the man?
Also, did God teach them how to sew, and without a needle and
thread? It would take a long time to make something this way,
yet we are led to believe that God came looking for them on the same day.
The priest this morning said the main trick of the devil against us
is to use our desire to be our own master, with no authority over us.

Today’s psalm reminds me that it’s time to go to confession.

“He has done all things well”.
This is the most things He’s ever done to make someone well.
It’s usually quicker, easier, with just a word, or not even that.
I wonder why He has so many different methods of curing
people, and they’re all good.

The thing that always makes me think is how the Devil actually looked, whether he was made to look like a snake or what. I come to a conclusion here

“The serpent is figurative language representing the Devil “And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan”(Rev. 20:2), not literally a snake. And the passage is using figurative language concerning the curse… The “belly” signifies pride and carnal desire, whose god is their belly and their glory is their shame,’ Phil 3:19 ] and “dust you shall eat” means that the Devil will look for and destroy those men who are earthly minded and put all their hope in the earth.”

There is nothing that says Adam wasn’t there. I have seen it argued that his failure to step in and stop the confrontation between Eve and the serpent was the start of Adam’s sin. He should have taken charge when the confrontation started.

I have seen it suggested that Lucifer’s fall came when he was confronted with the Incarnation and refused to accept God become man. In particular he saw the woman, Mary, exalted above him and was jealous. Thereafter he regarded woman as his prime enemy and made his chief attacks through women; note Solomon’s downfall through his pagan wives, Sampson’s defeat by Delilah, etc.

Also, this leads to Satan’s hatred of children. Father Entenauer has recently suggested that abortion is a satanic plot.
