The first reading tells us that we have not approached
a distant and terrifying God, but heaven itself, through
Jesus.
Today it was the psalm that struck me. It speaks often
of the great city of God. Just what does the “city of God”
mean? Is it heaven, the Catholic Church, Jerusalem, or
maybe the people themselves, all people of God, together,
wherever they may be?
In the gospel, the apostles were sent off in groups of 2. Who
was Judas’ partner? The Bible says that Judas used to help
himself to the money bag, which he was in charge of. I wonder
if Judas followed the directions when he was sent out to
perform miracles? I’ve always felt sorry for Judas, as if he
made a terrible mistake. But today I feel like he should know
that Jesus was God when He gave him the power to work all those miracles. He could see that the power didn’t come from
himself. What kind of person wants to kill God?
Today is the day of St. Agatha. I do not like to think of
St. Agatha. In the psalm of her mass is “deliver me from
the hands of those who hate me.” God did not deliver her
from their hands. He didn’t deliver Jesus from their hands
either. But now, may the souls of the faithful departed, through
the mercy of God, rest in peace, amen.
