In our parish our priest, in his homily, talked about both readings and also the gospels and tied them all together.
He said that John was referring to sin as meaning–those who knew Jesus and killed Him and did not repent, were guilty of the worse kind of sin. He said also that only Jesus can forgive us. Most of his homily was about our belief in Jesus’ Real Presence in Communion. When Jesus saw the men on the road, they still did not know Him. Yet as soon as He broke the bread, the veil was lifted. He asked for and ate a piece of fish. he proved through Scripture that He indeed had arisen. The discipiles made the connection through the bread. Do we make this same connection when we recieve Holy Communion. That He is present in both the bread and wine? He told His disciples after this to go and spread the Good News. After we recieve Holy Communion, do we do the same. Does His message stop at the church door on our way out? Good food for thought!
God Bless!
