Why didn’t Lot just go live in Zoar earlier? He couldn’t even stand the evil in Sodom,
so why didn’t he just move? Why did he stay there even when the angels told him to
run? The angels had to pull him out. He didn’t even need a city. The people back
then knew how to just live on the land in tents.
Today’s psalm says this:
“Search me, O LORD, and try me;
test my soul and my heart”
and that He does, and often. We want Him to make us better than we are now,
and yet, we say in the Our Father, “lead us not into temptation…”
In today’s gospel, I noticed that the apostles had great faith. Notice at the end of
the story they say, “what sort of man is this?”. They were surprised that He calmed
the storm. But, remember while the storm was going on they said, “Lord, save us!”
So they didn’t expect Him to calm the storm, and they knew He was a carpenter.
They themselves were the experts at sea. So what did they expect Him to do then
when they said “Lord, save us!”? They didn’t know, they just knew they had faith
in Him. He went on to tell them they had little faith, but maybe,just maybe, they had faith the size of a mustard seed…
Incidentally, our priest thinks that sudden storm was caused by an earthquake…
Today is the day of the first martyrs of the church of Rome 64ad.
I wonder how they’re doing now? I mean, sometimes I think that they suffered so
much that they would need a recovery time in heaven…
