I’m getting the idea that the Israelites’ main problem in being faithful to God was a
lack of leadership. Moses goes up the mountain, the people make a gold calf.
Joshua dies, the people turn to baal and ashtera. Othniel dies, the people offend
God again. Ehud dies, they offend again. Shouldn’t God figure out not to let the
leader die before another one is appointed? And even today, if the Pope dies, we
must wait while a new one is chosen. We must all stay together, like a flock of
sheep. No one must wander off by himself…
“They sacrificed their sons
and their daughters to demons”
– I can’t understand what was going through their minds when they did this!
Were they possessed?
"The young man said to him,
“All of these I have observed. What do I still lack?” "
– I wonder why he thought he lacked something? Jesus gave the man a revised
list of commandments, with some taken out, and a new one added. That
would have been enough for me to say “thank you Lord” and just be happy.
Maybe he was waiting for Jesus to say (loudly), “You have eternal life”.
I think what He gave the man to do for eternal life was very easy, compared
to “love one another as I have loved you”.
