With the internet and media, there are so many writers and speakers. How to decide what to read? Are saints writings underappreciated?

I look at the reading like food, which seems to be a very prayerful way of looking at the matter…

Contentwise, I know most of the issues here wont apply to my own concerns… I could fill my life with fast food, or I could eat good food - so I always rely upon the highest quality reading content (food) I can find to nourish myself spiritually…

But I dont judge people

it’s more like we come here to communicate our findings, yes? 🙂

There’s a certain poverty of spirit to posting, but keep the bigger picture in focus…

Since you mention the saints I’ll just give my thoughts on what to read concerning Catholicism. How to decide what to read? It’s probably best to read a lot of that which has been around a while or commentary on that which has been around a while. The Bible, the Church Fathers, the Saints. If it has stood the test of time that usually indicates quality, which is true for most things including art, music, literature and so on. The sources themselves are always the best but books and articles by current writers who are knowledgeable or scholars in their fields are often needed as guides especially to get started.

That’s not saying that forums like this with many knowledge people (many more knowledge that me) or that articles discussing current events aren’t important, informative, and educational. They certainly are. But I’d say it should be balanced with a broader perspective. My two cents FWIW.

Yes very much so. Their writings and writing of their lives should have a high value for us. I know Catholics who know almost nothing of the saints and it leaves them impoverished spiritually.

100% i feel if more Catholics (or more people in general) read the lives of the saints and more people read the writings of Thomas Aquinas, St. Agustine, John Paul II, and Padre Pio to name a few we’d have less ignorance towards the Church
