Can I ask that we all say a preemptive prayer for the unborn in New York?

It sickens me that a so-called Catholic can champion such a thing as the new “Reproductive Health Act.”

These states are so far from united since the civil war.

You can kill an 8 and a half month old baby, and yet the state refuses to use the death penalty on convicted felons.

I’m not advocating for the DP, just saying “What’s wrong with this picture?”

One thing that i’m frustrated with my fellow Catholics is we get all upset AFTER the fact. SSM in the USA or Ireland, SSM in , Aargentina abortion in New York, Abortion in Ireland. All these things happened in this pontificate or close to it. Then Cardinal Bergoglio lost the SSM battle in Argentina before he was Pope. But there is a lot of hand wringing, marching, protesting and wondering how this all happened but before it happens we get a lot of quiet. Churches in New York never speaking out against anti life politicians or voters because of the monetary repercussions. The Pope spoke of Ireland after the SSM votes and visited after it happened. We Catholics are all up in arms AFTER these people pass laws. But oh, no, we can’t actually, move proactively…nope lets just all react and be powerless.

We must continue to dream…the impossible dream. Until the days dwindle down to a precious few.

He didn’t loose it, we all lost it to an administration that took advantage of every cm and purse at hand. Corrupt and proven corrupt now through Justice and still a long way to go…
And we lost it to years and years of bringing education down and down , and populism higher and not that we didn’t come out to marches, and the Church to warn, act, speak and speak.
This portrait of inaction and silence is unfair to our case. Particularly when all the developed countries and all the bling and the media go forward in a direction where the rest of us, look outdated and considered outdated and in need of “ missionaries” when at the end of the day, in our little corners of the world, though not technologically or other areas were so advanced but at the end of the day also,we were “behind “ for good in relation to family and small values that we held dear and framed our identity.
Like or not, the influence from the most developed by pointing us as banana republics, or retrograde or behind , doesn t help much. We did a lot but we failed despite so many efforts.
We know, we were there . And it hurt badly.

If anyone is interested, here is a petition asking New York State to reverse these terrible, sickening laws:

Having lived in New York, and having family in New York, we knew NY was crazy. So my parents moved to TN, taking me and my sister back when we were kids.
The state is an example of everything wrong with left politics, across every spectrum of government, but people always use NY as an example of perfection. Like the recycling machines or toll roads - both huge corruption machines, but I know more than enough people who think NY is doing it right.

That includes this latest law. So that’s why I’m not surprised. It’s held up as a symbol of perfection, while being the absolute farthest possible.

My bishop had every mass bulletin have an informational sheet on this new legislation (back a few weeks ago) as well as a petition that each person could sign. The diocese had thousands of signatures. But it was not enough to change the minds of the legislators

This is so far from the truth. Multiple Bishops in NY spoke out against this and wrote letters to Cuomo. These Bishops are extremely against these politicians and have made it known for years. Cuomo won re-election this year and Bishops made it known we shouldn’t vote for him.

Lay Catholics in NY are the ones not making a big enough difference, not changing their votes and coming to the many pro-life events the many dioceses run. Don’t blame the clergy, the Bishops have been firmly against this as have countless priests

"On Tuesday, New York governor Andrew Cuomo signed into law the most radical state abortion law in the country. By explicitly restricting legal personhood to those who are “born,” the new law would seem to preempt any effort to curb abortion access in any circumstance. It also looks like the law will prevent criminal or civil courts from pursuing homicide charges when an unborn baby—even one that is “wanted” by the mother— is killed through malice or negligence.”

People are so quick to say that voting pro life means more than abortion to justify a democratic candidate. What did New York expect!? This decision in New York is along time coming. Decades maybe.

It’s a grave sin to vote for anyone who supports abortion. The bishops in NY have made this clear.

I am saying, don’t blame the clergy, blame the voters who aren’t listening. Your post clearly blamed the clergy
