So we are united on the essentials?

I have heard it said by several of us Protestants that we disagree on the non-essentials but are united on the essentials.

There is a blog that I have lurked on from time to time that polled its readers as to what the essentials are. Although the readers are from various backgrounds, they mostly seem to be conservative evangelical Protestant (like me) who are quite theologically literate.

Apparantly the talking point that we are united on essentials is…umm…not quite true.

Sadly, any statement to the effect that “we are united on the essentials” is apparantly an illusion.

Yeah. Who decides what the essentials are? I suspect that different denominations might disagree on what exactly is essential.
