Humans are social beings indeed many flourish because of our social networks. Could the terminology be frightening to some that are already socially vulnerable?

Maybe we need to change the terminology as I honestly doubt that social distancing is even possible as we have advanced methods of communicating and to some extent reinforcing the bond with society at our disposal during PHYSICAL DISTANCING.

Physical contact needs to be reduced during a health crisis such as the one we face and yet social distancing doesn’t seem to be appropriate.

Good point! In some ways, I am becoming closer to some people because of this, despite physical distancing 🙂

I’ve physically seen more neighbors than I have in MONTHS–the weather’s nice enough that we’re all outside, so we maintain our 6-foot distance, smile, wave, and chat. I just met a new neighbor, even! So for me, this is less “social distancing” than “physical distancing.”

Yes, there are many ways to remain in touch socially without physical contact. Perhaps those at the top should change that terminology, as it implies we can’t be sociable while keeping a physical distance, which is really what we need to do.

Very good point! We shouldn’t be social distancing, we should just be physically distancing.

For the first time today, I went to the grocery store (still no toilet paper!) and actually saw people standing in lines with six or more feet between them. When I went a few days ago…no one was! They were standing front to back like always. It seems to finally be sinking in that we must do this! Yay! 😁

All very good points and I think we need to make others aware that we only need to practice physical separation/distancing and find new, interesting, fun & original ways to strengthen & reinforce our social connections

I live in New York, so I’m also having to observe the ‘no plastic bags’ rule. So, I couldn’t hoard things, if I wanted to!

But, I do notice the distancing increasing. Probably better that way. Hoping the pandemic comes more under control, and we can start living normally, soon.
