Hello. Often in a given economy (country A), the economics of a particular job function make it such that companies begin to “export” that job to countries where it then peformed at a lower wage rate (country B). When that happens, someone in country A loses a job to someone in another country. Assuming the wage in country B is fair and that the presence of that job is welcomed and accepted in country B, what are the teachings of the Church on being instrumental in that “job exportation/outsourcing” process?

Thanks and God bless.

Outsourcing wouldn’t necessarily be wrong. It may be unfortunate in many ways, but not wrong, unless it’s being done Sprawl-Mart style.

Personally, I’m thinking of learning Marathi or Hindi and moving to India. I hear there are a lot of jobs in my field there…

I was laid off at my job and during my last year working there and after I left, there were various rumours moving around that they were going to move their business to China (Which they did build a branch in China). They laid off many people and also dismissed many of the older adults who were working there, pretty much forcing them into retirement. 😦

While unfortunate to those who lose their jobs, everybody needs to eat.

And yes, I have lost a job to outsourcing.
