With the recent unrest in the Middle East, I have often wondered how our Christian faith would play out given the gravest circumstances in our own society. For instance, if there was a complete monetary collapse and a disruption of the food supply for an extended period of time, would hunger and thirst compel us to steal? Or perhaps if you were prepared for such an event, would you be willing to use deadly force to defend yourself and your family from mobs and invaders? I live in the suburbs of a large city and often imagine desperate gangs of hungry looters and criminals going door to door in search of material goods. How many of my fellow citizens could I shoot (knowing their panic and desperation) in defense of my home and property? How would God see me in this situation? Would I be justified morally? I can’t just let them have everything, can I? (And hope they don’t decide to kill me or my wife and kids in the process) What would Jesus do faced with this horrible situation?
Anyway, just wondering.
