🙂 Hello!

My question concerns the blue booklet titled:

SPIRITUAL EXERCISES OF St. Ignatius of Loyola, Retreat Manual and Family Prayer Book.

Published by Angelus Press, of Kansas City, Missouri, widely regarded as “the” official publisher for the Society of St. Pius X.

Now, on page 25 we find this heading:

Third Commandment: “Remember Thou Keep Holy The Lord’s Day” The Precepts Of The Church

We skip down a ways and we find this:

**“Have you attended and actively participated in the New Mass?”

“Have you received Holy Communion in the hand?”**

My question is simply this:

Just what, judging from the way these two statements are linked, are we to believe, regarding what they say?

Are we being told here that: Going to the New Mass and participating in it is a so-called Mortal Sin, at least in the eyes of the Society of St. Pius X?

Do we say the same thing about Communion in the hand?

And, in either or both cases, just what’s the point of putting St. Ignatius Loyola’s name on the cover?

And why isn’t this official book even signed by its author or authors?

Thanks!

They need to get back in the fold before they ruin themselves from the inside out. I guess anything can be used to drive a wedge between someone and the Church, even our own traditions.

And so, the peril of the Church continues for another century.

i have admired the sspx for their devotion and their love of our catholic heritage, but i have always been upset with the means they choose to acheive their ends. combine that with the fact that souls are on the line, i think it is a very dangerous game to play. i pray that BXVI can heal this rupture before the chasm spreads too wide. it’s always easier earlier. i honestly think the sspx will never have another shot like the one they have with our current pope.

looking at the stuff a pope is responsible for, it makes me glad i’m just in charge of fixing teeth.

"Have you attended and actively participated in the New Mass?"

“Have you received Holy Communion in the hand?”
Laughable.

Let’s say you are in the Marines. It is quite likely that you are one of the substantial section of the American population who thinks that Bush’s Iraq adventure is a huge mistake. However, if you are ordered to reinfoorce some American troops in Iraq, it is also your clear duty to go, unless you think that Bush is not a legitimate President.

Similarly, “I disagree with NO” and “It is my duty to attend an NO unless a Traditional Rite Mass is available” are two totally different statements.

Ditto with Holy Communion in the hand. The current system is that the communicant can choose whether to receive on the tongue or inthe hand. Pretty absurd, since it means that people are expected to identify as traditionalists or trendies at the altar rail, but that is the system, and someone cannot be blamed for choosing one or the other.

🙂 Yo, Malcolm and everyone!

Say, Malcolm, I really like your analogy, as it reminds me of myself and a lot of other fellas four decades back.

Concerning the Society of St. Pius X, I guess it was yesterday morning that I ran across this zinger on the conservative-libertarian website www.freerepublic.com where the “Religion” section subscribers were having their usual free-for-all.

One entry that really got my attention was this one:

**POPE ST. PIUS X: Allocution of May 10, 1909

"Do not allow yourselves to be deceived by the cunning statements of those who peersistently claim to wish to be with the Church, to love the Church, to fight so that people do not leave Her…

"But judge them by their works.

"If they despise the shepherds of the Church and even the Pope, if they attempt all means of evading their authority in order to elude their directives and judgements…

"[Then,] about which Church do these men mean to speak?

“Certainly not about that established on the foundations of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus Himself as the cornerstone**.”

Boy! Does it ever sound like he was telling “somebody something,” nearly a hundred years into the future!😃

“Humm … now I wonder: just who *that *somebody might be, in today’s Catholic Church?”

Thanks!

Well desecration of the host is a mortal sin…and if you believe touching the host is desecrating it…then you could go ahead and confess it. Your advised to confess matters that are heavy in your heart.

However…techincally speaking, reception in the Hand is not a mortal sin.

So if you can do it in good consceince…then do it if thats what you really prefer…though I dont know why it could be more preferable than recieving in a traditional manner.

But if your consceince tells you that touching the Host is sacreligious unless you have consecrated fingers, then dont do it.

Its as simple as that.

As for the New Mass…attending is not a mortal sin. But every time you attend you support a new mass and spirituality that has ushered in horrible atrocities.

Now before everyone jumps…im not saying that anyone here supports liturgical abuse and diluted doctrine. Im just saying that attending a New Mass is indirect support of the Novus Ordo movement as a whole. Put it this way…if everyone stopped attending the Novus Ordo theyd bring back the Tridentine, and if there was no one asking for a TLM…then the SSPX, FSSP, and ICRSS just wouldnt even exist.

In fact…neither would this subforum.

The liberals, the relativists and the modernists.
. . And The SSPX, and any other organization that professes loyalty to the Church, while openly disobeying the Vicar of Christ on Earth.

Come now…Ive heard the same quote applied to Paul VI.

And I believe, if im not mistaken, that quote is one of Pius’ many comments about French Modernism. Dont twist it out of context.
