Hi all,

Does anybody know if, in any of the Protestant denominations, women cover their heads when praying?

If not, how do they reconcile this Corinthians 11:5-6

***5 But any woman who prays or prophesies with her head unveiled brings shame upon her head, for it is one and the same thing as if she had had her head shaved.
6 For if a woman does not have her head veiled, she may as well have her hair cut off. But if it is shameful for a woman to have her hair cut off or her head shaved, then she should wear a veil. ***

Seems plain to me that, sticking strictly to scripture, Protestant women invite shame upon themselves if they are not praying with their heads covered…

?

I believe Women should be covering their heads but most protestants interpret the verse to be a ban on shaving ones head… a woman’s hair is her head covering.

There are a number of sects in which women cover their heads when praying and all the rest of the time. Mennonite women are often coverers. And of course Amish.
Brethren churches. Some small Baptist churches.

None of the churches I attended taught women had to wear a head covering (usually that passage was interpreted to refer to a woman’s hair). But I did know individual women who would wear hats to church because they personally believed that verse meant that women should have their heads covered in some way.

A Jehovah’s Witness woman would cover her head if she were leading a bible study or praying in the presence of a baptized JW man.
