Actually, it was not. Y’all Romans are much too stuck on yerselves! It was the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. The Roman Rite had not developed yet.
I found a really excellent short article that gives what I think is one of the very best reasons not to accept Sola Scriptura.I can agree completely with what Jimmy Akin says there.
IMO there are many many very good reasons to reject Sola Scriptura, but this is the difference between Catholic and n-C thinking in a very concise nutshell.
Excellant quote. I found this to be the best statement:
In order to prove sola scriptura a Protestant must prove the different and much stronger claim that Scripture is so clear that no outside information or authority is needed in order to interpret it.
The doctrine of Sola Scriptura breaks down every time one opens a phone book to observe the list of denominations in any given town. If SS was truly observed, these churches would not require a ‘confession of faith’ or a ‘doctrinal statement’.
I found in fundamentalism, a rejection of SS was equated with a rejection of the Bible itself. How that leap is made, I do not know. There must be an interpretive authority which states simply, ‘the buck stops here’.
Actually, it was not. Y’all Romans are much too stuck on yerselves! It was the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. The Roman Rite had not developed yet.
